Introduction
In England it is estimated that only three in every 100 people survive a cardiac arrest. However, defibrillators can significantly increase the chances of patient survival.
A prerequisite for those who wish to register for this course is that they hold a current first aid certificate or equivalent.
At the end of the course there will be an assessment.
Successful students will be issued with a certificate which must be up-dated every 6 months.
OBJECTIVES
Students will be able to understand and deal with cardiac arrest using AED and medical gasses.
CONTENTS INCLUDE
- Understanding the problems associated with a cardiac arrest
- Identifying cardiac arrest
- Understanding indications and contraindications for the Semi- Automated External Defibrillation (AED)
- The safe use of the AED
- Maintenance of the AED
- Identification of medical gases and cylinder sizing
- Safe storage of medical gases
- The administration apparatus
- Contra-indications of the use of medical gases.
