AED and Medical Gases

Introduction

In England it is estimated that only three in every 100 people survive a cardiac arrest. However, defibrillators can significantly increase the chances of patient survival.

A prerequisite for those who wish to register for this course is that they hold a current first aid certificate or equivalent.

At the end of the course there will be an assessment.

Successful students will be issued with a certificate which must be up-dated every 6 months.

OBJECTIVES

Students will be able to understand and deal with cardiac arrest using AED and medical gasses.

CONTENTS INCLUDE

  • Understanding the problems associated with a cardiac arrest
  • Identifying cardiac arrest
  • Understanding indications and contraindications for the Semi- Automated External Defibrillation (AED)
  • The safe use of the AED
  • Maintenance of the AED
  • Identification of medical gases and cylinder sizing
  • Safe storage of medical gases
  • The administration apparatus
  • Contra-indications of the use of medical gases.
